Founders
We are Shefali and Maya Desai, the founders of Asha’s Food Bank. Asha is our dog that we adopted from Citizens For Animal Protection in 2020. She is the love of our lives and has completed our family. We created this nonprofit as a way to thank Asha for her unconditional love and devotion to our family.
Dogs are an integral part of people’s lives. They can lead the blind, detect low blood sugar, and even anticipate an oncoming seizure. The health benefits of having dogs and cats as pets has been studied extensively. They can lower blood pressure, ease depression, and improve cardiovascular health. Asha’s Food Bank is here to celebrate our pets.

What We Do
Asha’s Food Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on providing high quality dog and cat food to animal shelters in Houston and the surrounding areas. We do this by:
- Collecting unopened and in-date food from veterinary clinics when patients pass away.
- Organizing food drives through school and college organizations, religious organizations, businesses, pet daycare and boarding facilities, etc.
- Partnering directly with top pet food companies like Purina Veterinary Diets and Hill’s Science Diet for food donations.
The main purpose of Asha’s Food Bank is to address the nutritional burden at shelters.
